Which series of used laptops is the best?

I get this question all the time.  This is what I have found.  When giving this opinion, I have found that everyone has a preset idea about what they like.  Some of these opinions are based on past experiences with the company in question.  I basically compare the amount of repairs on used laptops that I must do on the various models that come into our repair shop.

Dell Latitudes have a keyboard weakness, IBM has a battery weakness, Panasonics are simply tough yet ugly, and the Compaq armadas or HP Omnibooks are in the running but I suggest that you stay away from the pavilion and Presario series.  Keep in mind that you get what you pay for in used laptops.  Especially in a used laptop.

What should I look for in a used laptop?

I use the old rule of thumb that you should look for the screen size and processor speed and purchase the fastest and size screen that you can most afford.  Always remember that memory and hard drives are easily upgraded.
